The first Professional Certification ever to be offered in the field of Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Processing, Computers in general, etc. was the Certificate in Data Processing (CDP) offered by the Machine Accountants Association starting in 1962.  This association was renamed as the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA).  The DPMA started the Institute for the Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP) to manage the CDP certification.  The DPMA was later renamed as the Association for Information Technology Professionals (AITP).  The ICCP initiated several new professional certifications and later combined them into the Certified Computing Professional (CCP) certification.  Beginning in 1985, new certificate holders (and previous certificate holders who were willing to participate) were required to qualify for recertification based upon continuing education.  Since then, specialty exams and proficiency exams have been offered and, later, additional certifications have been offered.

Bob Branan first passed the (competitive exam) called the Certificate in Data Processing (CDP) offered by the DPMA in January of 1970.  In 1985, he passed a (competitive) professional certification exam in Systems Analysis offered by the ICCP.  Later, he passed a (competitive) proficiency exam in COBOL programming.  Bob is currently a holder of the Certified Computing Professional certification with specialties in IT Core Concepts, Management and Systems Development.  He has been recertified every three years (or less) since 1985 based upon continuing certification.  This continuing education requirement has been a basic building block in his professional career.  Out of over 50,000 people who have been able to qualify for Certified Computing Professional (CCP) certification, Bob  is certificate holder number 000057.  He was most recently recertified as of December 31, 2007.

There are now a number of widely recognized vendor-based professional certifications in Information Technology that arrived on the scene much, much later.  These more recent certfications are all widely recognized and highly useful.  However, the CDP exam was the first exam of them all.  The ICCP has entered into a number of agreements to incorporate these more recent certifications into their programs.

Family Management Services, LLC is now posting a link to the website of the Institute for the Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP) for your information and assistance.  We will later attempt to negotiate agreements to advertise some of the more recent certification programs also.
